Weekly Pull (2015-06-10)

Mrs. Deadpool #1, Silk #5, Spider-Gwen #5, Kanan #3, 1602 #1, Captain Marvel & The Carol Corps #1

Mrs. Deadpool and the Howling Commandos #1
Our Deadpool is a ghost narrating the story. In a universe similar to 616, in the final battle between Deadpool and Dracula, in this universe, Dracula succeeds in killing Deadpool, and thinks of a way to keep him dead permanently (or at least for a long while). Dracula marries Shiklah, but she’s not just giving up. Her murdered brothers had found part of a weapon she could use to stop Dracula, so she arranges to leave the Underworld to carry her brother’s ashes. But Dracula sends along the Howling Commandos to go with her…

So far so good. I like the story so far, I like the art, and while I don’t love the boobie shirt, I mostly like her new outfit. It’s a cross between Indiana Jones and Lara Croft and it’s pretty awesome. I’m in.

Silk #5
LOVING this story right now. We have a Spidey/Silk team up, and Robbie ignores that gross hormonal must sex each other up stupidness that Dan Slott came up with. They go up against Black Cat, but things… don’t go as planned. Love Cindy, love the story, love the art, can’t wait for next issue!

Spider-Gwen #5
I like this series, but I don’t love it. Gwen and the Mary Janes have been invited to open for Felecia and the Black Cats, but they aren’t the only ones she invited. She has also invited Matt Murdock, Kingpin’s henchman, who murdered Felecia’s father many years ago. The concert is interrupted by their fight, and Spider-Gwen tries to break it up.

I didn’t like the coloring of this issue… the pink skin tones didn’t work for me. The story was a bit… It didn’t work for me as much this issue. It was more about Felecia than Gwen, and it felt like I was missing half the story and I know there isn’t a half of issue to be missing. I suspect next issue will draw this particular story arc to a close, and I might drop the series at that point. We’ll see.

Kanan #3
Love the series. If you have an interest in what life was like for those Jedi who survived Order 66, this is the story for you. Kanan is on the run, and nowhere is safe. Great art and great story.

1602: Witch Hunger Angela #1
I bought this for the art. It is GORGEOUS. The delicate line art and colors remind me a little of Amano Yoshitaka. I would get this serious just for the art I love it that much. Thankfully, the story is interesting as well. Angela and Sereh are hunters of demon creatures known as witchbreed. We get sly cameos of other Marvel characters as well as some famous playwrights 🙂 Very much recommend!

Captain Marvel and the Carol Corps #1

The issue felt really short, it was over before I realized! I don’t love the art, though I don’t hate it. It’s nice enough but a letdown after 1602.  I don’t have a great feel for any of the characters yet but the women all have different body shapes and sizes which is refreshing. Carol and her team are suspicious about the world according to Doom and they decide to do some investigating.  This story seems more tied to Battleworld and Secret Wars than the others I read today (Mrs. Deadpool and 1602) so keep that in mind if you want to avoid the event or if you want more of the event.
