Name: Lady Katherine Gryffith (Lady KittyHawk);

History: Lady KittyHawk was born several years after her brothers. The news that his wife was pregnant was a great surprise to everyone - and a great joy to her father, who had believed himself sterile after his riding accident, but who had always wanted a daughter. Of course, there were rumours and talk that the child was not his - that his wife had had an affair with, of all things, a Merchant Captain, but they were 'just rumours', and Lord Gryffyth did not question the girl was his though it was common knowledge most everyone else did. The rumours never really quieted though, and there was great tension between her parents as a result. Eager to escape the tension, Kitty pursued her education at a series of boarding schools. Although it wasn't 'fashionable' to be a bluestocking, Kitty was fascinated by mathematics and sciences, and especially loved the memoirs of naturalists like Charles Darwin and others.

Motivation: Higher education is still largely denied to women, so Kitty decided to pursue scientific exploration on her own, joining a 'merchant' vessel as a naturalist.
