Portrait Series

this started with a pic that had the four shinigami portraits, so i split them up, and using sketches found in the YnM sketchbook to fill in the image, i came up with this series. i repeated the black border around the center portrait also around the edge of the drawing. i like how some of the sketches cross over the border.

Shinigami

another pic focusing on the shinigami boys! i can't remember if this was a two page spread or not. what i do remember was that it wasn't tall enough, so i added the top bit. basically, i had to complete Tatsumi's head, and added all the rest above that. this one didn't take me too long to do, but i think it's a rather nice, simple pic with 4 bishie guys :).

Sting

i love how this one came out. the color version was an image in one of the books, but there was a sketch version in the sketchbook, so i used the sketch version as a background. naturally, it wasn't wide enough, so i placed in the back twice, then blured it a bit, so it's not easy to tell that it's not just one big image but really the same thing repeated. the picture, with the stylized clouds, flowers, and moon, reminded me of this old Lord of the Rings poster my parents had, and i kept trying to think of a LotRs title for the wallpaper... eventually, the word "sting" came to mind (ie, Bilbo's sword) and the name stuck.

Blue Monday

when i saw the two partial sketches of Tsuzuki and Muraki, i knew i wanted to use them, but i had a really difficult time coming up with an idea for the background. eventually i found a picture of a rose, enlarged it and stylized it, and then changed the opacity so a blue backround would show. the border i created from the sketchbook, but it was a purple colour that just didn't work, so i changed that as well. the title comes from the Orgy song. i am prone to naming pictures after songs that i am listening to while making them.

Illuminati

the original Illuminati wallpaper never came out quite the way i wanted it to, so i redid it... just about completely. i tinted the main image blue and added in a stylized version of the symbols very lightly in the background. the original was just too 'cheerful' with the yellow color, so now the blue tint really cools the tone down.

Sanctified

this wasn't a very difficult pic to do, but it's one of my favorites. i took a sketch from the YnM sketchbook of Muraki and Hisoka, then created the background with a scan of my "yami no matsuei" kanji. i altered the size and opacity to create a rather interesting effect, i think. the title of this comes from the Nine Inch Nails song.

Red Moon and Sweet Slaughter

i loved these sketches from the YnM sketchbook, and when i started playing around with them, i changed the line art to red. i loved the look of the red on the white, but i also liked the "inverse" of the red on black. since i couldn't decide which i liked better, i decided to make two images.

Enae Volare Mezzo

a wonderful sketch from the YnM sketchbook of Muraki seducing Tsuzuki. i used a picture of roses for the background to give it a "fallen flower" type effect. the name for this one comes from a incredible Era song, which was used in a absolutely wonderful anime music video focusing on Muraki. i thought it very fitting for this image.

Sanctus

a beautiful image of Muraki and Tsuzuki. as the image was too tall, i enlarged a bit of the background to make up the side panels. it's actually the same bit, flipped and altered slightly.

yin-yang

i had such a hard time creating this one. i couldn't figure out what orientation for the images to use. eventually, just by trying lots of different ways out, i came upon this, and really liked it.

Sunflowers

a bright happy image of Tsuzuki and Hisoka with sunflowers.

Child

several sketches from the YnM sketchbook of Hisoka who must watch over the transformed child-Tsuzuki. this one has been sitting on my computer for nearly a year now. i loved the sketches, but i just couldn't come up with a good background. i knew it needed something light and happy, so i used a sunflower image that i found while looking for the sunflowers for the above wallpaper. i'm still not quite certain if i like how this one came out or not.

Tulips

i'm quite pleased with how this pic came out. i cut some of the flowers and copied them around in the background, but the main thing i did was change the color of the flowers, which was orignally yellow, but as i already had a bright cheerful yellow flower picture, i wanted something different for this one. i think the red-orange works much better.

Butterfly

the main image was from the cover of book 8. the background image is from the YnM sketchbook. i changed the border color from red to blue. i inversed the sketch so it was white on black, then changed the white to the same blue. i added some more of the white dots in the background to continue the effect in the main picture.

Portrait: Muraki

this is and isn't apart of the portrait series found above. it isn't really, because i did this one nearly a year later than the others and the central image isn't from the same picture that the others are from. it is because i did the same kind of thing with this wallpaper. i didn't have a lot of sketches of Muraki (there weren't alot of Muraki only images in the YnM sketchbook, and i had already used a lot of them in other wallpapers.) but it worked out ok, as the gorgeous Muraki-angel image took up an entire side. i love that sketch, and i knew as soon as i saw it that i had to use it in something.

Autumn

i love this image... i'm a big supporter of TsuzukixTatsumi. there was a white border around the boys in the original that i took out, then i added a little extra to the sides, and came out with a beautiful pic!

Hon

this image always looked more like Tatsumi than Tsuzuki to me. it's an older, more mature looking Tsuzuki. like the above image, i took out the halo around Tsuzuki.

Nocturne and Nowhere

another example of li not being able to decide between two versions, and so i shall post them both. i did a lot of little tweaking to this piece, but no huge changes. the calligraphy, again, is something i drew in my calligraphy class i took in Japan. both pieces are named after Buck-Tick songs i was listening to while making them.

Storm of Sakura

evil Tsuzuki! i've always been fond of this image. since i tend to like darker backgrounds, i changed the background from white to black, which i think really intensifies the 'evilness' of this piece. didn't do much else to this piece, and i can't help but think that it might need something more, though i'm not sure what.

whisteria

this is the easiest one i have done in quite a while, because i pretty much didn't do anything to it! this is one of my favorite YnM images . i cropped the pic a bit, but that was pretty much all i did. in considered taking out the white halo, but i felt it worked for this particular image. off hand, i don't know what type of flowers these are, but i'm calling this pic whisteria because it's a pretty word.

matsuri

this one, on the other hand, i did plenty to. i finished off the entire left side of the pic. eeek!

Sacrificial Lamb

first i took out the original white background and replaced it with a black one. i redid the eyebrows to give it a more "worried" look. and then i added a bunch of quotes from vol 2, when the demon possesses Tsuzuki. even with the light background and normal eyebrows of the original image, i always thought of this Tsuzuki as sort of a 'sacrificial lamb." and so that was the direction i went for.
