Holiday Dress Project Runway 2009 |
|
3 Days. 9 Outfits. All Akiko's fault. She had this shiney red holiday fabric, and wanted to make holiday outfits for her wood elves. Since she was home, she got into her head to make a dress for Plum too - and maybe a couple extra vests for Gai and Xen. But she'd just gotten Victoria, so she needed a dress too. And since all the big kids were going to get matching outfits - that meant Fang, Nage and Viola needed holiday outfits too... Li did all the hand sewing (tiny outfits are allll hand sewing) and Akiko did the cutting, machining, and trimwork.
Plum
The first of the dresses. We made Plum's dress and her hood from Grace Fairie's Patterns. Gai
Gai's vest was a pattern Akiko drafted based on an AnotherSpace vest he had using the hood from the Gracefairie pattern that created Plum's hood. The one time we were willing to use costume satin - it was the only way the black would feel festive enough to match the red shiney fabric. His outfit now has frog closures (see above). His shirt is by Iplehouse and his pants are his default pants. Xen
Xen's vest was patterned from the Kingliness Vest. Since this picture the vest had 2 rows of buttons added (see above). His Kingliness outfit finishes his look. Pere
Pere's vest was patterned off of the Luts Nicoletta set vest for Senior Delfs. This has also had buttons added since this picture was taken (see above). The rest of this outfit is Doll of Paradise. The hat is Buddydoll, but we added the hat band. Kess
Ironically, even though it was the dress for Kess that started this whole thing, this is not the dress I initially intended to make for her. After the project expanded, I needed to share the shiney fabric, so her dress got sexier. She got a corset from the shiney fabric and a skirt in coordinating knit that was rejected for a Cosplay coat for Li. Both pieces were from Gracefairie patterns. A little bit of fuzzy trim became her boa. Victoria
This actually isn't her final holiday dress. I decided right before we started the project that I was going to change her body, and I didn't know the exact dimensions of her new body. Since her old body was the same size as Kess and Plum, and since Li wasn't quite sure how she wanted to use the shiney in Plum's dress, we decided to cut and make both versions. The second version became Victoria's temporary holiday dress. The skirt is a duplicate of Kess's skirt to make the final holiday outfit different from Plum's and make it more elgant (aka longer). Viola
Scraps of fabric were pieced together to make a shiney little corset that fit perfectly over Viola's little snowflake fairy dress. Akiko created the pattern. Fang
Fang's holiday outfit is a Tommy (Barbie) reindeer costume. Li added furr trim to make it fit him better, and then added the red shiney fabric so he coordinated with the rest of our kids. Nage
Using our Puki Kimono pattern, Li made Nage and shiney red kimono. Not yet pictured - Akiko made 2 cloaks from the knit fabric for Kess and Pere. Victoria also has a holiday dress created for her Volks body that has not yet been pictured. ***Webpage design copyright 1999-2010 j. a. n. and li.*** |
